Proportions and Direct Variations ISN Notes and Task Cards (Middle School Math)
Understanding direct variation can be difficult. We generally define direct variations as linear equations that passes through zero. But we forget to emphasize that direct variations because they represent proportional relationships!
In this notes sheet, students will solve a story problem using proportional reasoning and then solve the problem using the direct variation method. This process demonstrates the relationship between proportions and linear equations and emphasizes that problem so

My ultimate goal is for my students to view themselves as mathematical thinkers and communicators who have the capacity to solve problems, develop mathematical arguments, and persevere when learning is tough! I have centered my classroom around mathematical practices and problem solving in hopes of fostering within my students confidence as math learners.
