I usually count out 25 skittles per group to make the percent proportions easy so the students can focus on probabilities. Before students try the practice, I lead a class discussion on likelihoods and relate it back to the numbers in their tables.
I use this activity to promote collaboration, teamwork and peer tutoring. Students solve one step of a multi-step equation and then pass the paper to the next person who must check their work and then solve the next step. Students must work together, communicate and check each other's work in order to be successful. You can add a competition between groups to increase the difficulty if desired. There are 4 different equations so this works well with groups of 2 - 4 students. Students can use th
