This graphic organizer allows students to organize their thoughts before writing a recount. It has spaces for them to include all of the main elements of a recount: a bold beginning that answers the 5 Ws, a mighty middle using chronological words, and an excellent ending. It was used in my 2/3 class and was a clear way for the kids to remember to include everything they needed!

I created this task as a fun, inquiry-based project for grade 3 Social Studies (Ontario's Heritage and Identity strand: Communities in Canada, 1780 –1850). It is open-ended and asks students to create the storyboard for a hypothetical film that teaches peers all about early explorers, First Nations peoples and settlers in any way they choose. Included are the following documents in both French and English:
-a template for the storyboard with room for 10 scenes
-written instructions to be handed
Working on Ontario progress reports or report cards? This should save you time! I've created a tracking chart with the six learning skills and have chosen a few expectations to focus on in each of the columns. Not to worry though, the rest of the expectations are written out below so you can cut and paste whichever ones you're evaluating at the time. It's a great working tracking/observation sheet (just expand the rows to allow room for comments) or I like to use it with a pencil when I'm preppi
This graphic organizer for recounts focuses students' attention on the use of a "bold beginning", "mighty middle" and "excellent ending" to help with structure and organization in effective writing. A great complement to my other graphic organizer for recounts!
Students will reflect on the residential school experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada to create a piece of writing and a symbolic drawing that depict what it would feel like to be in a residential school. This activity is a great add-on to Orange Shirt Day learning and read-alouds from books written by residential school survivors. This is an editable Google Slides file that can be used digitally or printed. Included: -teacher guide -exemplar -writing template -self-assessment sheet -ex
This activity is meant for one-on-one tutoring, but could be adapted for use in the classroom. Its goal is to promote accuracy in writing and train students to carefully double-check their work for errors. It’s especially effective with boys!
By way of scoring "goals" with perfect scores in 4 different categories (spelling, use of capitals, punctuation and grammar), students try to beat the tutor -- the only way this is possible is if the student doesn't make mistakes! They'll love shooting the
I created this unit plan template to use for my grade 5/6 math units this year. It includes space for overall and specific expectations, the learning goal and success criteria, diagnostic and summative tasks, and report card level 3 comments and next steps. The rest of the chart is for planning the lessons, which includes the math problem that will be the lesson focus, assessment planning, and extra practice/homework.
All is laid out in a simple, clear, easy-to-read format that is fully customiz
Teaching a blended grade 5/6 class? This chart organizes the Number Sense & Numeration expectations for each grade side-by-side (with similar expectations lined up for easy comparison). I have bolded the key terms for each expectation so it's easy to see the differences between grades and what needs to be taught to each.
I needed a more organized, more visual curriculum, and I hope you enjoy the organization as well!
