I am a 7th year teacher of middle school math and science. I have taught at the same Catholic school all 7 years and it is the school I attended when I was in elementary school. I get to work with a bunch of my previous teachers!
Student instructions and rubric to a group project on air pollution. Students work in groups to research different properties of air pollution:
Clean Air Act
Ozone Pollution
Particle Pollution
Dirtiest Air Areas
Cleanest Air Areas
Instructions include website suggestions for researching.
Project concludes with a group presentation. You could easily turn it into a powerpoint or prezi presentation if you want!
.docx file for easy editing and personalization!
This zipped file comes with 118 elements, the title, and family names. Each page is in Microsoft Word .docx format. Please check preview if you are unsure if it will open on your computer. Each element square is 4'' x 5" to create a table that is approximately 4' 6" x 6'. (My bulletin board in the picture is 7' x 7') However, squares can be resized to create whatever sized bulletin board you'd like. File names are organized by color so you can easily color coordinate each periodic family by prin
This product contains 8 sets of 3 cards. There are 8 graphs that show parallel or perpendicular lines. Each graph has 2 equation cards in point slope form. Have students match lines and graphs for a station activity or as a quick activity during class time. Print cards onto yardstick or laminate for long term use!
In this project, students crosscut the subjects of Language Arts, Science, and Art as they write and illustrate their own story of how they discovered the center of the Earth.
This can be completed as a research project or after a unit on inside Earth. I have completed it in my science class and even though there is only a 1 page minimum, 6th graders have wrote 3 to 4 pages filled with descriptions of what they see and do.
While the facts about each layer must be true, I allow creativity to f
This quick 15 minute lab is a great way for students to see Boyle's law in action. Students need to know what Boyle's law is and how it works to complete this lab.
Materials: 1 Balloon per student
1 Clear plastic cup per student
This group project was used to review our Ratios and Proportions chapter in 7th grade math. It is a longer project that took us about a week to finish and we also had the opportunity to walk to our small grocery store as a part of it. First, students convert a recipe they have to serve a larger amount of people. Then, they combine all their ingredients as a group to create a shopping list. Most ingredients they have to change to ounces as that is how packaging is listed at the store. Finally, we
In this lab students will use household items to recreate the digestive system. Parts included are the mouth, stomach, and intestines. This lab is messy and fun and students have a great time creating and observing! ** Answer Key is included Goes great with this lesson plan on learning the parts of the digestive system and what they do! https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Steps-to-the-Digestive-System-A-Class-Chant-1770327
This middle school unit is a great introduction to matter. It has been used successfully in my classroom. All student printouts, worksheets, and tests, are formatted in Microsoft Word so they are editable to best fit your class's needs. Answer keys are included. See the preview for the full unit plan.

Students have to sort equations and word problems into 3 categories: Exponential Growth, Exponential Decay, or Compound Interest. This can be a station or math center activity or a take home worksheet.
This product contains instructions, student worksheets, and answer keys for 4 - 5 science/math stations.
Teacher Instructions:
When completing stations in the classroom, be sure to set expectations clearly before beginning. These stations are to be completed AFTER students have been introduced to speed and velocity formulas. When I have my students complete these stations, I have an extra opening or two at each station so that students can travel to another station after completion. Timed rota
Description This activity contains 4 colored copies of percent fraction decimal cards to create a little fun in the math classroom. I have had students complete this in stations, or with partners as a whole class. There is some teacher prep-work, but after completed one time, the cards can be used year after year. Teacher Prep Work: Photocopy or print cards onto card stock and cut apart. If making more than one set, I like to make each set on different colored paper so a missing card can easily
In this lab, students can explore the affect of concentration on a reaction rate. Students observe the reaction between vinegar and baking soda when vinegar is a 100% solution, 50% solution and 25% solution. The lab can be edited to accommodate higher or lower grade levels and the amount of observations needed.
Included: student lab instructions, partial answer key, teacher notes on implementation and prior knowledge
These 6 science stations help to introduce or review balanced and unbalanced forces and Newton's First Law of Motion. Students experience different modes of learning including reading, watching a video, and hands on with inertia. All stations are editable in Microsoft Word to better accommodate your class and students.
Please feel free to check out my other science activities at my TPT store!
In this lesson, the digestive system is introduced when students come up with actions to represent each organ of the digestive system and its job. The actions are then performed one at a time while the significance of each organ is recited. As students learn each new organ, the chant becomes longer. A worksheet is included for students to fill out as well as its answer key.

This activity contains 4 puzzles of different shapes to create a little fun in a like terms lesson. I have had students complete this in stations, by themselves, and in groups. They have worked in all scenarios. There is some teacher prep-work, but after completed one time, they can be used year after year. Teacher Prep Work: Photocopy or print puzzles onto card stock and cut apart. To make the puzzles easier to put together, trace the outside edges with a thick marker. If making more than one
In this lab, students will change the height of a ramp to affect the speed of a marble. Students observe that the higher the ramp, the faster the speed of the marble. Students may use this lab to review how to find speed, creating a line graph, and the scientific method. The lab ends with writing a concluding paragraph. A partial answer key is included.
In this quarterly project, students are instructed to find a science article from a newspaper or magazine and write a summary about it to create a visual poster or display. I do not allow my students to use an article found online because many students have a difficult time finding a reliable source. Instead, I allow them to photocopy articles from magazines found at the library. Students are exposed to new branches of science and keep up to date with what is going on in the science field. Also
Use as a station activity or as an assignment. Equations are given in Standard Form. Cut the first page into thirds and give each student a strip with the 5 equations. Graph each equation by finding x and y intercepts or converting the standard form equation into point slope form. Graph the equations on one large graph to see the star shape. GRAPH PAPER NOT INCLUDED
Contains student instructions to complete a book report poster project on a nonfiction book about science. Has a rubric for teacher grading. Saved as a doc file.

Teaching style
I will try just about any method to keep my students engaged and excited to learn. If they leave my classroom with more awareness of the world around them and the ability to think for themselves, I have been successful.
Awards & shining teacher moments
Having my students tell me, "Math is fun!" :)
