In this lesson, the digestive system is introduced when students come up with actions to represent each organ of the digestive system and its job. The actions are then performed one at a time while the significance of each organ is recited. As students learn each new organ, the chant becomes longer. In this lab, students will change the height of a ramp to affect the speed of a marble. Students observe that the higher the ramp, the faster the speed of the marble. Students may use this lab to review how to find speed, creating a line graph, and the scientific method. The lab ends with writing a concluding paragraph. A partial answer key is included.

In this quarterly project, students are instructed to find a science article from a newspaper or magazine and write a summary about it to create a visual poster or display. I do not allow my students to use an article found online because many students have a difficult time finding a reliable source. Instead, I allow them to photocopy articles from magazines found at the library. Students are exposed to new branches of science and keep up to date with what is going on in the science field. Also
