Mapping text is a fun, visual and kinesthetic strategy for teaching reading comprehension. I have used it to work with struggling readers, especially secondary students who have trouble navigating their text books effectively. This product provides colorful notes outlining the purpose of this strategy, a student reference sheet and a reflection.

This short project is a fun way to get to know students at the beginning of a term. Students create a timeline, that integrates events in their personal history and events in US history and provide a short explanation and image for each one. US historical events can be chosen by students or provided by teachers. This project can be adapted for other history classes. A rubric is provided.
This product includes a short Timeliness Plan, requiring students to quickly reflect on why they were tardy, what they missed and how to prevent tardiness in the future. The plan is followed by a longer reflection and one page article about the impact of being tardy. This is designed to give students some language and ideas to use when reflecting on tardiness without requiring extensive adult support. The reflections can be used together as part of a process, or separately.
This is a graphic organizer used to aid students in writing an autobiographical poem. Students choose a hook (I am, I am From, I hear, etc.) and respond to four categories (my home, my neighborhood, food I eat, and expressions/things I hear). The poems work well to teach sensory details and sharing is a great icebreaker.
I've used this at the beginning of the school year with middle and high school students and the results are always very creative and impressive-- great for a class bulletin bo
