I’ve been teaching High School students for the past 10 years. I teach a variety of subjects, owing to the nature of my BA and MA and as challenging as it is, I’ve enjoyed every minute! 6 years ago after the birth of my first wee one I decide to take a career break and have been with my son and his sister since. As both my wee ones are Nuerodivergent, SEND learning and the UK primary curriculum has become a learning passion of mine.

This resource can be used in conjunction with RWI Green sounds practice 1.1 - 1.7 If provides learners with the opportunity to segment and blend the Set 1 Speed Sounds and then practice writing & spelling. I've used this specifically with my daughter who has just completed the first 10 sounds and can now start segmenting and blending simple CVC words. I've also used this as a revision tool for my son (SEN) to reinforce learning and practice letter formation and simple spellings. Both have resp

This is a great resource if your learners are at the initial phonics stage. It is comprised of the Read Write Inc Set one speed sounds. It contains the image relating to the sound, that will be familiar to learners, and 5 opportunities to trace the sound. It can also be used when the sound has been introduced and children will practice or to reinforce sounds and mark making as a means of a revision activity. I've used this with my children (We practice a lot a home!) and it has been very success

These 3 simple tasks are lovely for consolidating knowledge of basic Hallowe'en Vocabulary. I like using this task to introduce the topic of Hallowe'en in Irish. I usually place students in groups to work together to use their previous knowledge & dictionaries to look up the words. There is also a series of flashcards I use for weaker groups that can be placed around the room for students to find the words. They are also avaialble in store. The tasks include: A word search A dictionary task/ w

This lovely simple display can be used as a word wall for your classroom or as a working aspect of your white board. Simply ask the students what the weather is like today and then place the correct image on the corner of the board for students to look at for the day. In my room I have these on our word wall when the topic is covered and we use it everyday. (When the weather changes throughout the day, my students like changing the display on the board) I also have flash card sets for some of my

Bingo is a great way to engage students in vocabulary acquisition. (My students love playing) This set has 8 cards each with 9 images related to Christmas. Once you have introduced the vocabulary and you have given them some time to get to get comfortable with it, playing this will help cement their knowledge. I like to play this in pairs to begin with and i match students according to their ability. Peer learning/teaching is fantastic for helping students to remember. Please note that these hav

Two simple tasks to get your classes using the Irish words for fruit and vegetables. Often time we tend to just teach the basics. These sheets encourage the teaching of other words such as peach or pineapple. They are all editable and are great to leave as a dictionary activity for a substitute lesson.

Experience

I’ve been teaching High School students for the past 10 years. I teach a variety of subjects, owing to the nature of my BA and MA and as challenging as it is, I’ve enjoyed every minute! 6 years ago after the birth of my first wee one I decide to take a career break and have been with my son and his sister since. Teaching style

I believe in honesty in a classroom. Don’t make promises you can’t keep and have realistic, individual expectations of those who sit in front of you. I’ve found that if you show respect; you receive it. And the more a student achieves, the more their hunger grows. I believe in meeting a learning where they are and driving them forward on their own individual learning journey. I teach the way I want my wee ones to be taught; with respect, patience and understanding.

Additional biographical information

First and foremost I’m a learner. I thrive on discovering new ways of doing things, however as a traditionalist at heart I look to those who have been before me for guidance. After that, I’m a Mammy of two beautiful, curious adventurers. His drive for knowledge and his inability to absorb information via traditional means is my inspiration for teaching.
