Physics Free Choice Project

Created by
Physics Hawk
In this project, students have many choices. They may choose to work in a group or alone, choose their partners, choose any physics topic to explore as deeply as they wish, and choose how to present and demonstrate it. The document includes the instructions and the rubric.

You learned your primary colors in art, but when you look at your printer cartridge, there are different primary colors. And, it gets even weirder when it comes to mixing colors of light. This video provides a brief explanation.

The sound made by a racecar as it passes is related to how we track tornados. We also use it to trace blood flow in arteries. The Doppler effect has a lot of uses. There is a separate video for the math, so this video can be used for both lower and upper level physical science classes.

This video is aimed at middle school physical science, so it does not include the math of collisions. While this video is good for physics as well, you might want to pair it with the Calculating Conservation of Momentum video that shows the math.

We use the words opaque, transparent, and translucent quite a bit, but do your students know what it means. This video gives definitions and examples for various items on the spectrum of opacity.

Additional biographical information

Teaching during the pandemic was hard. In fact, it was the hardest thing I've ever done. But, it did require me to digitize some things I hadn't before and to evaluate test questions as I moved them over to digital platforms, ultimately resulting in better questions. You can benefit from that work here.
