All my life I have been caring for children. I have done assistance role in childcare centres and now I am a qualified primary school teacher. In the primary school setting I have taught prep, year one, year three, year four and year six.

The outcome states that students should demonstrate the ability to: Recognise and classify familiar two-dimensional shapes objects using obvious features - corners and sides (ACMMG022). These three activities allows you to assess this thoroughly

2D Pizza shape activity

To explore/introduce the concept of two-dimensional shape, I have created a 'real life' pizza activity. Introduce the concept by discussing with your class what is their favourite pizza. Could you sort food into shapes. Lead into the fact that you are going to create a pizza and write up the order for the ingredients on the pizza. When writing the order, the students will write how many of each shape inside the shape and trace over the shape name. These will be great for a display :)
