Students can work with a partner or a small group to complete a pictograph charting the weather for a certain month. Each group has a different month to tally the various types of weather and then graph the results in a pictograph. The task is completed much faster if the pictures are pre cut by the teacher. Students also have to know where to place the labels for the graph. Questions about their results can be completed at the end of the task.
Do your students need practise printing their numbers correctly? Taken from Debbie Diller's Math Stations book, these brightly coloured posters can be posted on the wall to help students remember to print their numbers. You could also make a book and place it in a math station for students to read together. These "catchy" rhymes are well loved by students!
