These questions were created for my students to fill out as they read the book Home Run King by Patricia Mckissack. Students spent two weeks in literature circles and were typically asked to read one chapter out loud together and then read one chapter independently. This is a sorting activity that can follow a less on the suffix "less" and "ful." Students look at base words and determine which suffix to put the base word under. They will discover that some base words can go with both suffixes. After sorting, students record their work on the recording sheet and create a definition.

This is a sorting activity that allows students to practice finding pairs of homophones. Students find two words that sound the same and place them under the two headers (word 1 and word 2). They verbally use the words in a sentence and check each other's understanding. After they've found the homophones, they record their work on a recording sheet and create definitions for the words.

This is a great introduction (or summative) lesson for prefixes. After having students learn the meaning of re and un I give them this sort. In pairs they create the headings (which I copy on colored paper) and then cut out the based words and put them under the correct heading. There is a worksheet that I use for them to fill out once they've sorted correctly that makes them think about the meaning of the words before and after adding the prefix. They are challenging and require students to apply critical thinking skills to understand the problem and attack it! This is meant to use after students have a strong understanding of area and perimeter. My students love challenging word problems!

Attached is a one page homework assignment that supports students' understanding of quadrilaterals. Students are asked to identify attributes of a quadrilateral, identify quadrilaterals in an assortment of shapes, and then find the perimeter of a quadrilateral (review from our last unit)

This is a worksheet that can be used to reinforce how to tell time in two different ways for students. Students need to calculate minutes to and minutes after the hour.

This is a two page template to use with protective sleeve covers where kids can use whiteboard markers to write with. I use the protective sleeves A LOT in my class to limit the number of paperwork. Students use this template during our time unit (specifically when I teach elapsed time and time intervals). They can follow along with my lesson or can practice problems with a partner.
