This is a response sheet that you can use as you teach recognizing how a character responds to a major event or challenge. You can make this into a poster, use under the document camera, and/or make copies for the kids to use independently.
Here are some titles of great books to use with this sheet:
"A Chair for My Mother"
"Memory String"
"Nana Upstairs and Nana Downstairs"

I created this activity and these worksheets to help my kids learn and become fluent in breaking down a word problem and finding out: What is being asked? What operation will need to be used to solve it? What words/phrases help to figure out the operation needed to solve it?
I think this will also help them prepare for and understand the "wording" used in many standardized tests :).
This 50 page ZIP file includes:
Mixed Word Problems Activity - There are 28 cards which you can print out alone,
This file has colorful posters defining characters, setting and plot as well as a poster that breaks down the five parts of a plot. It also has graphic organizers that you can use after a read aloud or the kids can use to find the characters, setting and plot of the books they are reading. these posters and organizers are also in printer friendly black and white :).
Enjoy!

As part of our personal narrative unit in writing, our kids have to create and write a fairytale. This can be a challenge for some who cannot tap into their imaginations. I hope this will prove to be helpful to them this year.
The file includes:
Fairy tales organizer
NEW Fairy tales story board (there's also a free download in my store of the first storyboard I made last year :)
4 different frames cover pages and matching story pages for the final draft
Enjoy!
This is a simple book report form your students can use as a reading response or to show comprehension of the text.
They also have the opportunity to rate the book and tell why they do/do not recommend this book to a friend.
This is a recording sheet to help students tell the purpose of why they, as the author, write the piece. This can be used when teaching the reading strategy: recognizing and identifying the author's purpose for writing a text/passage/story/book.
Enjoy!
