In Hamlet, several characters express doubts about the ghost's nature. Should the audience have doubts as well? This essay prompt is designed to encourage an in-depth analysis of Shakespeare's classic tale. By focusing on one Shakespearean scholar's critique of the narrative, students are asked to analyze the role of the ghost in the play. This prompt could be used either as a timed AP English Literature practice essay assignment or as an extended writing exercise for students at any level.
