Split Complementary

This is a cross-curricular unit plan for Grade 4 Communities and Habitats, from the Ontario curriculum. It combines science, environment, art, language and outdoor activity. This resource can be used for a variety other learning purposes. It can work well with Grades 4, 5 and 6 for science curriculum, outdoor exploration, student inquiry project, visual arts and language.

The critical analysis process is a step-by-step approach to encourage anyone to be able to discuss any work of art, starting from a simple personal reaction, and moving towards a more critical, in-depth analysis. Teachers are encouraged to use this process to prompt students to respond to any work of art: visual art, music, film, dance, drama, integrated arts, media arts, photography, architecture.
