For this RAFT, students are asked to take on the role of a doctor evaluating Walter Mitty's mental state. Students practice analyzing character using a TAD poll (thoughts, action, dialogue). They research potential diagnoses for Walter Mitty, and then argue whether, based on Thurber's characterization, Mitty suffers from a psychological condition or is "just a dreamer." This is a test goal planner for students to use right before they begin preparing for the ACT. I use it when I teach ACT classes after school at the start of the course, but you could have students complete it when the semester starts or at the beginning of a unit on the ACT.
