This worksheet starts off with a practice of graphing basic inequalities. There are examples of each type of inequality, some written with the variable on the right. The worksheet moves on to solving one-step inequalities and graphing the solution on a number line. The problems are a mix of various difficulty including multiplying and dividing by a negative number to "flip" the sign.
These stations provide a review of functions. There are 7 stations.
Station 1: Function or not a function...that is the question
Station 2: Multiple Representations
Station 3: Writing a rule #1
Station 4: Domain and Range
Station 5: Discrete or Continuous
Station 6: Independent v. Dependent Variables
Station 7: Writing a rule #2
Students use their knowledge of distance, midpoints, vertical angles, linear pair, adjacent angles and perpendicular bisectors, congruent segments, angle bisectors, and congruent angles to construct their own city streetscape. This project allows students to be creative and show their knowledge of basic geometry concepts. This file also contains a rubric for students.
This exploration gives students a context in which to apply their knowledge of functions and function rules. It involves 4 different scenarios of students collecting pennies. Each student starts off with a different amount of pennies and earns a different amount each day. For each scenario, they must fill in a table with ordered pairs, graph the ordered pairs, and then make predictions for future days. Discussions that may arise include how to predict for future days and the weaknesses of ea
This exploration requires students to complete charts involving radical expressions and then analyze the charts. They are required to identify patterns and create rules for multiplying radical expressions. The examples used involve multiplying simple radical expressions, radical expressions with coefficients, and using the distributive property. This exploration also ties into multiplying binomial expressions through the FOIL technique. Students' knowledge is extended by incorporating multip
This exploration takes students through the steps of dividing polynomials. Part I is a review of long division using two, three, and four digit numbers. Students also review what happens when there is a remainder (they will need this further in the exploration). Part II utilizes algebra tiles to make a connection between the dividend, divisor, and factors of the dividend. There is a note-taking part for the steps to carryout polynomial long division and a practice page that includes 8 straig
This test assesses students' knowledge of one, two, and multi-step equations and properties of real numbers. It consists of:
- 10 properties problems
- 5 combining like terms problems
- 10 one, two, and multi-step equations problems
The questions involving equations deal with fractions and decimals.
This exploration requires students to use their knowledge of multiplying binomials to identify patterns in the product. They then use these patterns to factor a trinomial. Students will also use their knowledge of graphing quadratic functions to graph some of the examples. There is also a practice page that includes 12 practice problems
Students are given various scenarios in which they must evaluate formulas/expressions for given replacement values. The worksheet consists of 5 problems.
Spiral Review #1 is comprised of 6 questions as follows:
Question 1: Students must fill in a chart of equivalent values of fractions, decimals, percents, and scientific notation.
Question 2: Students order a set of numbers from greatest to least.
Question 3: Students determine two consecutive numbers between which the square root of 34 falls.
Question 4: This question is a real world application of square roots. Students use their knowledge of square roots to determine the dimensions of a roo
This test is designed to be given after a quarter of the math 8 curriculum is completed. The test consists of 25 questions includes the following topics:
- Comparing and ordering rational numbers
- Order of operations
- Evaluating expressions with given replacement values
- Real Number System
- Practical problems involving percents, ratios, and proportions
This test review covers basic concepts involved in solving multistep equations. It includes:
- Properties of real numbers
- Combining like terms
- Multistep equations
I Have...Who has is a great tool to use as a warm-up or informal assessment to measure how well your students understand solving multi-step equations. It can be used in variety of ways. For example, sometimes I will have students get into the correct order without talking. Other times, I will have the students say, "Who has....." and make all students perform the calculations and whoever has the answer says, "I have.....Who has...." and so on.
