About the store
My first experience included substitute teaching, in which I truly learned a lot while working with a variety of grade levels and classroom settings, including special education. I then taught Kindergarten for four years in a Catholic school. I have worked with all grade levels through my experience as a Title I teacher for four years, too. My most recent experience has been in a departmentalized setting for 5th and 6th grade math. Coming this August, I will take on a new challenge of RTI/math specialist.

Using informational text, students of all ages can learn more about a fun holiday! Great addition to a Mardi Gras unit, this power point provides a class visual while students can complete a graphic organizer before reading, during reading, and/or after reading at teacher discretion. Or you can turn it into a Read Aloud/listening activity.

William Steig Author Study Presentation
Introducing...William Steig! Unique author and illustrator, his stories offer such rich messages for people of all ages. This power point presentation is designed as an introduction to the author study unit. There are a few slides, however, that can be revisited as whole class activities during the unit. Number Sense in Context 1-10
These are visual graphic organizers that can be used as part of a lesson, review, or at a station with specific tools to complete.
For example, use rubber stamps for the money.
Provide rulers to draw segments that size.
These can also be leveled. For students identifying numbers, simply have them locate and circle the corresponding digit on the clock/ruler/phone. Again, it promotes stronger retention to provide these concrete materials in connection.

Character Profile
Encourage your students to design this much like a layout of a Facebook Wall, with a few tweaks. Create a cover picture by drawing the setting of "The Amazing Bone" by William Steig. Include any friends and villains. Practice sequencing and summarizing by adding status or news updates from the story! Predict and make connections by estimating times of day according to events in the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

You may have heard of the "Give Me 5" visual hook for classroom management. Use this Give Me 5 to hang in your classroom for a great visual memory hook for remembering the 5 elements of a story. You may even wish to discuss the eye --- look closely enough, you WILL find all 5 elements in any story!

Numbers in Context 11-20
These follow up 1-10, with progression of certain skills, while also continuing to review.
They tend to follow a best math practice strategy: concrete - pictorial - abstract.
Again, teachers have the freedom to use as review, morning starters, as part of a lesson showing connections among skills (another best math practice) rather than isolation of skills!
With ruler, students can either locate the digit or draw a line segment that measures its number.

Reading Street short i final x - A Record Mix Activity
Only a few may get the play on words of the title. This is a center based learning activity. I developed it for the short i, final x sound in addition to the lesson of Reading Street series. The template of the pictures is the perfect size for the sleeve dice! So print on cardstock, laminate if you choose, and ready to go! Make learning spelling and vocabulary words a little more fun! WOW!
When I did this with some of my first grade groups, they were challenged to truly demonstrate the concept of addition and subtraction. In other words, not the rote memory, but coming up with the equation based upon situation.

Teaching style
I believe in promoting higher order thinking skills through classroom discussion as well as the activities I choose to use with my students. You may observe many of my projects are open-ended in order for the students to create, think on their feet, and use those higher order thinking skills to demonstrate understanding. This often also allows differentiated levels more easily by students' generated responses and work!
When students CREATE, it doubles the learning!
I love to continue to learn, am always open for hearing new ideas/suggestions, and sharing with others!
