Students glue the column headings into a notebook. Then students cut and glue the cards at the bottom, deciding if the card is an example of a topic or an example of a main idea. I gave students each a bag of 12 skittles to write fractions for and then use to draw pictures of equivalent fractions. This was a fun activity- especially because students got to eat them!

This is an end of book test for Eve of the Emperor penguins in the Magic Tree House series. It tests overall comprehension of the book with multiple choice and open ended questions. Author's purpose, main idea, citing textual evidence, character, and inferences are assessed with this book test.

This is text on extreme skiing. It is the teacher read aloud for third grade lesson 25. The text has been rewritten and modified for some lower third grade readers. This file has a short nonfiction text on the first trip to the moon. It is written on 3 different levels with different scaffolding in the questions to meet the needs of three levels of students. The questions hit many of the RI standards in first grade.

This is a reading passage on 3 levels, based around MOY first graders. The passages discuss two characters in a rainstorm. Students compare the characters and tell which they are most like.

3.OA.1 , 3.OA.2, 3.OA.3, 3.OA.4, 3.OA.8 are tested in this short, two page math assessment. This test has short answer and multiple choice.

This is a 3 page end of unit assessment on fractions for third grade. It covers making fractions, comparing, equivalence, and number lines.

This is a literacy activity that goes along with the book, The Sun, The Wind, and The Rain by Lisa Peters. Students compare what the different mediums do to the real mountain and the sand castle. Also the students write about the author's purpose of this text and why she chose a sand castle.

This is a paired activity with 3 word problems each. Each question is differentiated as the student chooses which numbers they will use in the problem. In a rally coach student A solves their problem with the help of B and then B solves his/her problem etc. down the line. Students use one paper and one pencil. To send this activity home one just needs to cut the paper in half.

This is an independent review of all areas in 3rd grade fractions. I use this as a weekly homework to practice learned skills at home or during an independent practice center. Would be a great when reteaching fractions as well.
