This is a nonfiction reading activity that goes along with a national geographic article on lightning striking, called In The Strike Zone. It is from the March 2012 pioneer edition. This is a literacy activity that goes along with the book, The Sun, The Wind, and The Rain by Lisa Peters. Students compare what the different mediums do to the real mountain and the sand castle. Also the students write about the author's purpose of this text and why she chose a sand castle.

This is a paired activity with 3 word problems each. Each question is differentiated as the student chooses which numbers they will use in the problem. In a rally coach student A solves their problem with the help of B and then B solves his/her problem etc. down the line. Students use one paper and one pencil. To send this activity home one just needs to cut the paper in half.

This was a "self-guided" project made for advanced students in 4th grade to practice many standards and problem-solve on their own.
