This is a nonfiction reading activity that goes along with a national geographic article on lightning striking, called In The Strike Zone. It is from the March 2012 pioneer edition. If you would like the article to go with this activity I will send it to you, if you comment with your email. This is a literacy activity that goes along with the book, The Sun, The Wind, and The Rain by Lisa Peters. Students compare what the different mediums do to the real mountain and the sand castle. Also the students write about the author's purpose of this text and why she chose a sand castle.
This assessment focuses on multiplication. It is a multiple choice document that could be used for pre or post assessing the standards listed below:

This is a paired activity with 3 word problems each.
Each question is differentiated as the student chooses which numbers they will use in the problem.
In a rally coach student A solves their problem with the help of B and then B solves his/her problem etc. down the line. Students use one paper and one pencil. To send this activity home one just needs to cut the paper in half.
This aligns with RI2.6. It contains 6 short paragraphs of text. Students can choose a card- state the topic, the author's purpose, and pick out two supporting details.
This was a "self-guided" project made for advanced students in 4th grade to practice many standards and problem-solve on their own.
Students are given money to buy animals for a mini-zoo and graph paper to create the zoo. They are charged with finding out what customer will make the zoo a profit.

This is a short review that could be used for homework or as an in-class assignment. This has two step word problems using addition and multiplication, missing variable, and distributive property. It also has one pattern problem!
This is a set of questions based on common core. Students listen to this story and then complete the activity. It could be used as an individual activity as well. This covers cause and effect mainly BUT it also includes finding evidence in the story to define words, main idea/details, and explain character's actions.
Student skip count by different multiples and color in 100s charts. Then they look for patterns within each chart.

Students listen to Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens. Then they practice reading skills by responding to questions. This activity includes comparison, author's purpose, summary, and finding evidence to make predictions.
