Experience

I have 5 years of full-time experience teaching AP Computer Science and Intro to Programming classes. I currently teach courses in the programming languages Java, JavaScript, C#, and Python. I'm also the computer science department head at the K-12 school where I teach. My responsibilities include vertical alignment of all computer science courses from 6-12+ in our secondary school.

Teaching style

I prefer an active approach to learning that favors project-based learning and problem-based learning. In my classroom students get to practice new skills often, they learn to debug and troubleshoot problems by being resourceful, and they get to move around and make creative artifacts with the skills they acquire. In my experience the gamification of lessons and assessments has been a big hit with students and admin.

Awards & shining teacher moments

A team I coached became the State Winner in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition in 2023-2024. Another student recently published their own tower defense video game on Steam. The game features a custom level builder, hand-crafted 3D models, shaders and animations all made by one student.
