About the store
Welcome to The Learning Carpenter—where teaching is treated like a craft and every resource is built with purpose. I’m a veteran educator with 18 years of experience teaching grades 2–8, and I know firsthand the challenge of finding materials that are both meaningful and manageable. My goal is to create resources that don’t just fill time—they support real learning, encourage critical thinking, and actually work in your classroom. Here you’ll find thoughtfully designed materials for middle grades (with room to grow!), including math, history, leadership, and Career & Technical Education (CTE). Each resource is created to be practical, engaging, and visually clean—because good design matters just as much as good content. Whether you’re looking for something ready to use tomorrow or a tool to elevate your instruction, everything here is crafted with intention and classroom reality in mind. Building better classrooms, one resource at a time.

Leadership Lessons

As a Leadership teacher, it's hard to find free or cheap curriculum for character building and community service, so I have created some of my own projects. I have a 7th/8th grade mixed class, and I use these projects every year because students like to do them again just researching someone else or interviewing a new friend. Included in this file is: Leader Research Project Character Essay Communication Project Community Service Project I usually start the year with some games/activities ab

Bivariate Data Project

This is a final project for an 8th grade Statistics and Probability Unit on scatter plots and bivariate data. It follows the 8th grade CCSS. Students will create and carry-out a survey, make a table and scatterplot to show the data, and then analyze their data and create an equation for a line of best fit if applicable.

Year End Math Final Project

This is a cumulative fun final project that I use for my 7th grade math class, however it could be used in different grades as well. It includes the following sheets: Final Project Options ABC Cover Page ABC Book Blank Templates Board Game Project Instructions and Rubric Dream Vacation Project Instructions and Rubric I usually give them the Final Project Option sheet first and discuss all the choices. I then have them sign up for which project they want so I can make appropriate copies. I d

Interactive Notebook Grading Rubric

This is a grading rubric used for interactive notebooks. I use this to grade my notebooks each quarter and it's 50 points each quarter. The rubric breaks down the scores for A, B, C, D/F with descriptions for each. Students glue these into the notebook and I grade it right on the sheet. I keep track of which pages I grade (ex: 1-15) and how many completed Cornell Notes they have (2/4), and then sign my initials. Could be used in any class really, not just math.
