About the store
I have taught math for 29 years in a public school system. The first 2 years were at a junior high school and the last 27 have been at a 9-12 high school. The subjects include basic math, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus AB. I have also taught the many new math courses the state of Georgia has implemented in the past decade: Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, and Math 4. We are currently implementing the Common Core math courses of which I will be teaching Pre-Calculus and Statistical Reasoning.

Graphing the Cosine Function

Students use calculators to generate a table of values for the cosine function then graph the wave. After completing the graph the student is led to look for patterns so the graph can be done without the use of a calculator and table. There are guided questions regarding the characteristics of the graph that can be answered in a whole group or cooperative learning setting. A follow-up worksheet is available at The Math Machine using the sine and cosine graphs. This activity is part of the Graphi

Transformations of Sinusoidal Functions

This activity uses a graphing calculator to help students discover the rules for changing amplitude, shifting the midline, and horizontal shifts of sinusoidal waves. Students are prompted to complete some of the steps without using the calculator to show mastery. The teacher would follow up by teaching how to draw the graphs without the graph paper prompt. Answer key included.

Teaching style

I believe learning math is like learning to play an instrument; you must practice. I assign homework almost every night and plan work sessions for at least part of the block each day (we are on a modified 4 block schedule). Technology in the form of the graphing calculator is integrated throughout the learning process.

My own education history

Three years at Georgia Tech majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Changed to Secondary Education in Mathematics and completed B.S. at Albany State College. Also continued with my education and earned M.E.in Ed.S. in Educational Administration and Supervision

Additional biographical information

Love mathematics and showing students how it is used in the real world.
