I love this project because I love Wayne Thiebaud and his delicious looking desserts. He was considered a Pop Art painter in his earlier days. I also love his landscape paintings. Students like to try out new materials like oil pastels and this project goes perfectly with oil pastels. I also like to sneak in a little demonstration of shadows and light. My students had a great time making art larger than a single sheet of paper. They learned about Yayoi Kusama, Installation, and a little geometry (using a compass) This is a big project but only took a couple of days. Then the rest of the school loved visiting our hallway!
