THINK and TASK

This PowerPoint is intended to be printed and shuffled, for students to then organize chronologically within themes of: Cause, Rebellion, Consequence. Designed to have students develop their Cause & Consequence competency. Answers are in the "Notes" section shown below each slide. My "Cause & Consequence" graphic organizer is a fitting closing task.

Package includes teaching PowerPoint with hyperlinked video clips, assignment, and rubric. Content includes a summary of French / English relations in Canada, the Quiet Revolution, with a focus on the October Crisis for the majority of material. Ethical competency is developed throughout by "Making Tough Decisions" graphic organizer, as well as final assignment based on ethical judgment. Student support materials are included. Rubric for assignment is included.

Quick outline of how the government of Canada makes changes and decisions. Students are then prompted to create their own bill, process it through the correct steps, and have it approved. Students will demonstrate the historical thinking competency of Taking Perspective by including opinions of both sides.

Unit begins with the fundamental pieces of a civilization before exploring unique and common characteristics of Indus Valley, Mesopotamia, and Egypt. Activities include video clips and photo analysis. Thinking is centered on hypothesizing and evaluating evidence. Assignments include a travel brochure and a concept map. There is a student workbook synced to the slides, and a teacher copy to support and adapt. This resource is designed to support BIG ideas and Curricular Competencies.

In-depth unit covering Ancient Greece which helps students develop their ability to demonstrate understanding of BIG ideas and abilities with Curricular Competencies. Covers a great deal of Ancient Greece, particularly how they influenced future societies.There are many video clips hyperlinked, learning activities, and assignments with answer keys and rubrics for all.

Novel study of Iqbal. Includes several activities designed to have students develop a meaningful connection with child labor in today's world. Assignments include a webquest, photo essay, and wordle.

Slides begin with some background information that sync with booklet. Students will need to read and think through the longer length of text (4 pages). There is a TEDtalk portion. Lastly, there is a film report section which could be easily removed if you wish. This mini-unit attempts to develop the Taking Perspective competency of historical thinking.

The sequence will arrive in order - as an answer key. Upon completion, students are to determine the five most historically significant documents in the collection.

PowerPoint covering Canada's entry, contribution, and home front during WWI. The focus is on developing historical significance competency. Assignments are for mapping and battles, with answer keys included.

This sections works well if students have already done my WWII overview. However, it works well without too. Learners will choose 1 Canadian home front event and 1 Canadian war event to inquire about and document on their graphic organizers. The slides have a very brief introduction to Canada entering WWII as well as a small section regarding the Holocaust and atomic bombing.

The rise of dictators (Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin), and the failure of the League of Nations during the Interwar Period. This page could be used as a webquest, with slides, or readings. It is quite simple, with some fill-in-the-blank, visual creations, note-making. It is designed to provide a basic understanding of the Interwar Period, leading to WWII.
