This is a quick fun activity to create a sundial. Works best if you can section off a section of a playground or parking lot to mark with chalk throughout the day to track the motion of the sun. Can work on multiple grade levels; I used it with a self contained middle school classroom.

This is the PPT and Lesson Plan that I used for a 3rd read of "The Hangman" which is an excellent supplementary read to go along with "The Diary of Anne Frank." The PPT is set up for a 3rd read and allows for close reading, and group reading of the text. It assumes that some annotation has already been completed but can be adapted to use for annotation or first read of the text. The lesson is based off RL.2 and RL.5 for 8th grade students but also touches RI.2 and RI.5 as the text is compared
