About the store
Although this is my 5th year in elementary school, I spent more than half of my career teaching middle school math. I've been an elementary math coordinator for the past 3 years, working with teachers to improve instruction as well as working with struggling learners.
In addition to teaching children, I lead staff development sessions in my school district and have taught sessions at the Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching [CAMT] in 2009, 2011, and 2012. These sessions generally focus on using cooperative learning and ESL strategies in the mathematics classroom.

Math in the Real World - Messy Kitchen
This photograph of a disorganized kitchen is accompanied by a list of math concepts that can be found in the picture, such as capacity and three dimensional shapes.
This is great for posting in the hallway where students wait for the restroom or in the cafeteria where students wait in line each day. Every time they view it, they will see something different, and the list of suggested concepts gives them things to find in an "I Spy" manner. Also good for posting on the board for students to circ

Teaching style
Cooperative learning is, in my opinion, the best avenue to learning. When students collaborate, they learn to express their ideas and defend their answers in a way that solidifies what they have learned. For that reason, I use partner and group activities as well as hands on activities to teach.
