About the store
I have 3 years working experience in a school with primarily Multi-Lingual students. I developed some amazing skills in classroom management during this time. I also learned quite a bit of Spanish! I taught all subjects. I am now teaching 5th grade in my hometown and I only teach ELA and Social Studies. This is very nice because I really get to focus in on Tier 1, 2 and 3 groups with more time to challenge and focus on areas of growth. I have used various curriculums related to Common Core for SC State Standards including: HMH, Savvas, and Lucy Calkins.

Pearl Harbor Diorama Template

I am getting ready to begin teaching about World War II and the causes/events that brought the United States into war. With just a sheet of poster board, foam board, colored paper, sharpies and Axis and Allies game pieces, I was able to recreate Ford Island, Battleship Row and directions of attack from which the Japanese used to attack Pearl Harbor. This brings the actual attack into a more visual perspective for students to see. This product is a stencil template that I created on Google Draw t

Experience

Teaching style

I have been in the classroom for four years as a teacher and I use a "Hands On" teaching approach. I have been working on some ideas to turn Social Studies/History into engaging lessons that students will absolutely love. I focus on incorporating ELA with Social Studies using rotations, dioramas and fun activities to guide my classroom learning.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Since using many of these ideas that I will share with you, I have seen my students' comprehension and engagement with curriculum increase in many ways! I also take pride in my ESOL/ML integrated activities as well!

My own education history

I graduated with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education with a Minor in Science. I have also studied American and Military History most of my life and I love to use every opportunity to share my knowledge with those around me! I specialize in small group and whole group learning!

Additional biographical information

I grew up in Upstate, South Carolina. I have a long list of educators in my family who helped mold me into the teacher that I am today. I always loved history, reading, poetry, the great outdoors and spending time with my family. I was always told growing up: "If you make learning fun, it won't seem like work". I use this philosophy with every opportunity that I have with students. When planning activities, I always ask myself if I might enjoy the activity or not. If I am not interested in what I am teaching, then I know that my students will not be. Going forward, I look forward to sharing engaging and rigorous activities that you can use in the classroom to help develop a love for learning amongst your students!
