This assessment has been designed so that you can give the test whole group or individually. I try to give the test individually each year. It gives me the opportunity to work with each student one on one that first week. I am also able to take notes on their math practices and gain a better understanding of their skills. As we all know time can get away from us though so if the test needs to be given whole group it is worded perfectly for this, as well!

I lay out base ten pieces, scratch paper and counting blocks for students. Without giving any guidance I let them choose what they would liked to use and make notes as they go about solving problems. This particular assessment is designed for Fall of 3rd Grade. These are based on the Common Core Standards and what students should have mastered by the end of 2nd Grade.
