I am currently in my 11th year teaching in Salisbury Middle School. I've taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grades and did my teaching experience in elementary school.
Students need to find the probability of picking certain colored M&Ms, and asked to change them into decimals, fractions, and percents. They are asked to draw specific M&Ms at random for experimental probability problems. They are asked to make a few predictions, as well. This is a lengthy lesson and takes a while to get through, so make sure you have enough time to get through it. It can be done in 2 days, and if you need to use colored chips or counters instead, go for it!
This is a dividing decimals activity where students need to solve problems to create a puzzle. This is very interactive, and can even be done as a math center or in a small group! A teacher copy (answer key) and a student copy (one that they can cut out) are available.

This is an activity for students to show what they've learned on rates, ratios, and proportions. This is a very engaging lesson where students can work at their own pace to complete the Halloween theme activity. I worked on this with my students as a classwork assignment and a colleague sent it home for a homework assignment. Students hate worksheets, but love to learn in a fun way. This is a 25 problem worksheet activity that has students adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing the opposite to solve the one-step equations. The goal is to solve the problem, cut a piece out of a puzzle, and put it on the blank grid. For example, problem A may read: 3x = 9, where the answer would be 3. This is a riddle that in order to solve, students will need to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators. Once they have solved the problems, they will be able to solve the riddle. This is a great in class or homework assignment. My students worked on this in class and loved solving the riddle (a lot of them play football)! Answer key is included!

This is a pythagorean theorem practice where students are given three measurements and need to find out if it is a right triangle or not, by having prior knowledge on the theorem and the vocabulary. If a triangle is right, they need to shade it to make a cool design when all the problems are completed. This is a great classwork or homework assignment and is quick to grade! Answer key included!

When I am not teaching, I spend my time with my family. My son is almost 3 and we love to spend evenings on the beach! I enjoy teaching, especially with my "at-risk" students and living life to the fullest!
