Description
***UPDATED JULY 2014***
Bubbles! is an inquiry based science unit for first grade covering the "Practice of Science" focused around hands on experiments, informational/non-fiction reading and writing (aligned to Common Core standard).
My students adored these lessons! They constantly asked if we were doing "bubble stuff". The experiments, reading and writing are wonderfully engaging through inquiry, questioning, observations and discussions.
The Practice of Science teaches students to question the natural world, make observations, record and analyze data. The students will create and answer questions while reading non-fiction books, conducting experiments, making observations, recording data and analyzing observations and data. The unit includes:
* 7 lessons plans including informational reading, 4 experiments with informational, expository and opinion writing tasks and printable recording sheets
* Craft for bulletin board display
*Pre- and Post-Assessments
*Student Performance Task Rubric (Informational writing)
*Suggested Text Set
*Resources
*Materials list
*Word Wall Vocabulary Cards
Download a preview for a list of all the standards covered in the unit. Common Core Standards in Reading Informational Text, Writing and Speaking & Listening and Florida NGSSS in science are covered in the lessons. I identified the first grade standards, but most overlap to Kindergarten and second grade.
