Bug Ya is a math game that provides motivation for the learner to practice math fluency and learn math facts for addition, subtraction, and multiplication as well as to review money. It is an engaging and fun game that is easy to differentiate or adapt to any grade level, or for a whole class, or a small group of children. Four games are included in this short resource packet. One is for addition or subtraction; the second for multiplication, and the third game involves the use of money. The second and third games may involve subtraction with renaming and addition with regrouping based on the numbers that are used. All the games have been developed to extend the recall of facts through playful and intelligent practice.

The games are simple to individualize and differentiate since not every pair of students must use the same cubes or have the same objective. Since the goal for each game is determined by the teacher, the time required to play varies. Bug Ya can fill in leftover time, or be played during indoor recess, or when a child finishes his/her work early. It can become a part of a math lesson or be used as a center activity.

I have personally used Bug Ya with all ages of students including middle school. It is always one that my students ask to play over and over again! As one of my students exclaimed, “It is my favoritest game, ever!”
