Description

Interactive Notebooks can be a great way for students to record standards taught and become creative and innovative thinkers. They serve as a great resource for students to refer back to throughout the day. Students love seeing all the math skills they have learned in one place.

This notebook covers the following 4th grade Common Core Math Standards for Fractions:

4.OA.5
4.NF.1
4.NF.2
4.NF.3 (abcd)
4.NF.4 (abc)
4.MD.4

This notebook best follows Module 5 from Engage NY.

In this product you will find:

- A student notebook cover
- A topic header
- An “I Can” statement for each standard (or part of a standard) to
glue at the top of the notebook page
- Graphics, foldables, information, and other resources to create
each page
- Photos of each page of the notebook put together so you can
have an idea for how to use the materials in this product.

For your convenience, I have included several of the same images on a page to reduce copying.

Also, a second, quick print, version is included at the end if you’d like to cut down on student cutting and pasting. This is the great way to still include a math journal in your curriculum while cutting back on the time spent to put it together during your math block. You may choose to add some extra (blank) pages in-between the provided ones so that students can take notes and show their work.

Download the Place Value version, the Measurement version, the Multiplication and Division version, or the Geometry and Angle Measurement version of my Common Core Interactive Math Notebook. They all fit as the perfect companions to this pack.

Need a notebook for a different subject or different standards? Download the Editable / Generic Version of my Mystery Detective Interactive Notebook.

My students loved using this resource for math. They were engaged in the resource and had no trouble getting started. It didn’t take much time to prepare this resource, so it was easy for me to use in a crunch time.

Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by using information presented in line plots. For example, from a line plot find and interpret the difference in length between the longest and shortest specimens in an insect collection.
Generate a number or shape pattern that follows a given rule. Identify apparent features of the pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself. For example, given the rule “Add 3” and the starting number 1, generate terms in the resulting sequence and observe that the terms appear to alternate between odd and even numbers. Explain informally why the numbers will continue to alternate in this way.
Explain why a fraction 𝘢/𝘣 is equivalent to a fraction (𝘯 × 𝘢)/(𝘯 × 𝘣) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
