Description
Working with Title I students I have found teaching onset and rime can be a challenge. They are just grasping their sounds and are now being asked to apply and put them together. This activity gives them a little extra help. We start with a picture containing the onset and rime that they put together on their own. They learn the task using these pictures before moving on to just letters.
Very colorful hands on activity sure to be fun for your students while they continue to learn.
This packet contains single consonant onsets and moves into blend and digraph onsets.
Finally they move to onset and rime with no picture support.
Many days of practice for your students. Especially those very low students that really need multiple attempts at understanding.

Great graphics!! This will really help my students.
Thanks for your feedback.
It is hard to find onset rime segmentation activities. Thank you for this. I wish that the pictures were staggered on the page in boxes. I had each kid cut their whole picture out, then we named & segmented as we chopped the onset off the rime. It would have been much less time consuming if I could have quickly used the paper chopper and cut everyone's stack before the lesson. As was, each kid had to cut around all the curves...you know that can take forever. Thank you though for the resource, I did get use out of it.
Hey Jessica, You are very resourceful. My intention for this activity was in a small group or at a center rather than indivudually. I can't believe you kept you sanity trying to get all your students to cut these out. Hats off to you, you must have remarkable patience. Good luck with the remainder of your school year.
Thank you!
