I have been teaching three levels in Language Arts (9, 11, and 12) for seven years. English 9 is a comprehensive look at language arts. This includes reading (To Kill a Mockingbird, House on Mango Street, Romeo and Juliet, and many supplementary stories, articles, poems, etc…), writing skills, grammar, and speaking. English 11 is a course in American Literature. The class mainly focuses on reading skills, with writing and speaking used to supplement. English 12 is a language arts course for technical/business writing and reading. The students are usually lower in skill level and work with practicing practical writing and reading. I've attended various conferences, including a national conference in Nashville and writing conferences in Ann Arbor and New Orleans. I look for new ways to hone my craft at any opportunity.
