Description
Included in this product is a set of 30 task cards on simplifying exponent expressions, a student recording sheet and an answer key. The task cards are available with a colored border or with just a black and white border. All of the task cards are short answer cards. To simplify these expressions students will need to use the product rule, the power rule, the zero rule, and know how to simplify exponents that have negative exponents.
This particular set of exponent task cards is a difficult version. An easy (beginner) version is available here: Set 1: Working with Exponent Task Cards – Easy Version
There are 2 main ways I use task cards. I either have students pair up, or I have students work alone. When students work in pairs, I give each student in the group a card. Students then work together to solve each of the problems. After a certain amount of time (2-3minutes) each group passes their cards to the next group. When I have students work on task cards by themselves, I pass out the task cards, then set a timer so that every 2minutes students pass their cards. If you would like to incorporate movement into your class period rather than passing the cards, students can change seats every 2-3 minutes so that they have different cards in front of them to work on at different times.
I prefer to cut out sets of task cards, laminate them, then keep them on a ring for easy access. They work great as bell ringers and exit tickets in addition to being used for centers or whole class activities.
