February Math Budget Activity
Share

Description

An important focus of Common Core Standards for Math is hands-on, real-world math. This monthly math budget activity for February involves students planning a class Valentine’s Day party by accessing information on the Internet and manipulating their budget using calculators. They are given a budget of $200 and must research aspects that include, decorations, valentines, snacks and treats. Students have an opportunity to calculate sales tax and shipping where applicable and their success is measured by how close they can come to spending their budget without going over it. This fun activity can be used in math centers or as an on-going project for early finishers.
