Geometry/Algebra Beginning Concepts Coordinate Distance and Midpoint Task Cards

Update!!! I included a second file in which I separated the task cards into 2 sets of 16 - one on distance, one on midpoint with separate answer sheets!

In this set of 32 task cards and 32 matching annotated answer cards you will find cards meant to review/reinforce finding the distance (length) and midpoint of a segment in the coordinate plane in different ways and at different student levels. You will also find a student answer sheet!

The cards are written with three “levels” of difficulty:

****Cards 1 – 4 have the lines graphed and the endpoints of the segment labeled and ask the students to find the distance (length).

****Cards 5 – 8 have the lines graphed without the endpoints of the segment labeled and ask students to find the midpoint.

****Cards 9 – 16 give the endpoints in words (no picture) asking students to find the length.

****Cards 17 – 20 have the lines graphed and the endpoints of the segment labeled and ask students to find the midpoint.

****Cards 21 – 24 have the lines graphed without the endpoints of the segment labeled and ask students to find the midpoint.

****Cards 25 – 32 give the endpoints in words (no picture) asking students to find the midpoint.

****The cards are also mixed in difficulty with some cards featuring the picture with all of the labels and some cards involving written descriptions.

****The answer cards show all of the work so that you can print them if a student needs to see the solution

Teaching Suggestions:
There are multiple ways to use these task cards. A few of them are:

****Pair students with a partner and have them pass the cards from pair to pair every 2 minutes.

****Separate the cards by concepts/difficulty and have students work in small groups depending on their abilities.

****Use the cards as part of a larger station activity.

****Use them as entrance or exit cards.

I highly recommend printing multiple sets of task cards on card stock, laminating them and cutting them out to store in zip lock bags so that you have them for the next year/class. This ensures that you are not constantly needing to run a new set or giving up class time having the students cut them out!
