This is a multiplication CGI (Cognatively Guided Instruction) problem. Your students get to choose the numbers they would like to use to solve the problem. I encourage my students to try all of them. They can solve the problem by drawing pictures or using manipulatives. Have them show their work in the square and write the number sentence on the line. I often use several of these problems to help me determine their report card grade for solving word problems.
