Multiplication Mastery is a complete, work-at-your-own-pace program for teaching the basic multiplication facts. It provides learning opportunities, practice and reinforcement of the multiplication facts through repetition, gradual integration and the use of mental math strategies. As students work through the program, they will work towards mastery, memorization and the development of multiplication strategies.

Because Multiplication Mastery is a student-centered, work-at-your-own-pace program, each student in your classroom will be appropriately challenged and work to his/her full potential at all times.

Even if you choose not to do the program as it is laid out in this resource, you can still use the activity sheets, center activities and hands-on activities to teach multiplication as you see fit!

Enjoy!

Hi Shelley,

I teach Year 2 in Australia. At our school we teach 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 10's in year 2. Is this product useful if used out of sequence? Also, are the worksheets/activities suitable for homework practice?

By the sounds of the reviews it seems to be a very well appreciated resource.

Thanks :)

Hi there. I have included two different versions of the Multiplication Mastery program in this resource. One goes up to 10x10, but the one that would best apply to you is Version 1, which goes to 5x5. In the program, students work out of order on the activities. They complete the 0's, 1's, 2's, 5's and then the 3's and 4's (in Version 1).

Then, what you could do is take the 10's activities from Version 2 to use with your students. You should complete the 10's after the 5's. The levels do build on each other, but in Version 2 the 10's are completed right after the 5's as well, so it will be completely usable for you, despite the fact that you are not doing the 6's, 7's, 8's, etc.

The activity sheets are very suitable for homework practice.

I really love this program, and it works so well. My students have always been very highly motivated to learn their facts.

Please inquire if you have any additional questions, or if my explanation did not make sense to you.

Thanks again,

Shelley

Does this program include flashcards 0-12 for students to cut and study? Also, does it include an assessment for each fact to test student mastery?

Hi Erin! No, there are not flashcards included with this package. It is a self-paced program where students work through the activities included at their own pace to learn and practice their facts. As far as the assessment goes, it is just a quick oral test so that you can determine if the students have achieved mastery or not. I did not include a written assessment for the reason that it will not tell you if the student has achieved mastery or not. For example, a student might answer the fact 7x5 correctly on a written test, but that does not tell you whether he used skip counting or a known fact to figure it out, or whether he just "knew" it. When you do an oral test you have the opportunity to "see" the strategy that the student is using, therefore determining whether mastery and automaticity has been achieved. For this reason, this program uses a very quick oral test (takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes) to assess students.

There is a full explanation of this in the package, but if you need any more clarification, please feel free to ask.

Have a great day,

Shelley

Could you tell me how this system is most often used in the classroom? My dilemma is that I need to continue on through the book as we are learning multiplication facts as well. Is this something that I could designate a "day" to each week? What are some suggestions you might have for this type of situation? Thanks.

Hi there! I am a bit unsure what you mean by "continue on through the book as we are learning multiplication facts," but I am assuming you are saying that you use a text book for other concepts, which you need to keep learning as you do multiplication? I generally set up the multiplication station as a center in my classroom. So multiplication is only one small part of what students are working on. At the other centers they could be working on other concepts from your regular math program. I would caution you against working on multiplication facts only once a week, the reason being that it will be hard for students to develop mastery when they are not practicing regularly. Instead, you may want to think about allotting 10-15 minutes every day or every second day so that facts are always fresh in their minds. You can also integrate basic math facts in other ways throughout your day. For example, when students enter the classroom in the morning, it might be part of their "bell work." If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks so much for your interest,

Shelley

Hi Shelley, I am a newbie to this site. I was just browsing through some of your free downloads. They are all fantastic!! I sure will be your follower. I also had a quick question..where do you get all your clip arts and fonts from? Thanks, Nita.

Hi Nita! Welcome to TpT. You will quickly find that graphics and fonts are a bit of an addiction :) I get graphics from MANY places - Scrappin Doodles, KPM Doodles, MyGrafico, Goodness and Fun, Digi Web Studio, Thistlegirl Designs, and the list goes on. I get a lot of fonts from KevinandAmanda.com. Just be very sure that you read the terms of use before using any graphics or fonts on your products. In many cases you need to buy commercial licenses for them. Good luck with your TpT adventure! It is an awesome place to be :)

Is there an answer key for each of the activities, so students can check their work?
How did you manage student work?

Hi there! There is not an answer key included. In the resource I recommend writing the answers on one page in colored pen, and mounting the answer key on construction paper to make it stand out. As far as managing student work, I have each student create a section in their Math binder for Multiplication Mastery. All of the work goes in there when it is finished. When they have finished an activity and self-checked, they show me quickly and then it goes straight into their binder. Once everyone learns the routine, it runs so smooth and students are totally in control! Please ask if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your interest. Have a great day,

I love this program! The resources are great. However, for some reason when I download it there are little black boxes on some pages that should be text. I've seen this before but never cared to worry about it until now since I actually want everything on these pages! I work off a Mac and my adobe is updated. Do you happen to know how to solve this issue?

Hi Janie! Yes, this is an easy fix. It is probably because you are opening the file in Preview. Here is the full explanation from the TpT FAQ page:

Good luck! And thank you for the kind words. Hope your students love it!

I am unable to print this packet i bought. I've had trouble with others I've bought from teachers. I don't understand, but it continues to go to save and then when I go to print it will keep going on the screen across trying to get all the way to 100% and it won't let me go further. I know this may not make much sense, but do you know how I should save it? I've just spent $10.00 and I'm unable to print it.

Hi Shelley,

I just purchased Multiplication Mastery and I love, love, love it! However, it is huge. Does it cover 11's and 12's? I want to start my station this week! Thanks! "Ms. Wicks" 6th Grade Intervention.

Hi there! I'm so happy that you are excited about getting started. This resource just covers the facts up to 10. Version 1 covers facts to 5x5 and Version 2 covers facts to 10x10. Good luck getting started!

Hi Shelley,

This is fantastic! My daughter is in 8th grade and although she is in honor's math, she still does not know all of her multiplication facts (memory issue). It's so important to have useful tools to help.

On a professional note, I teach 6th grade and I have a number of students that do not know the x facts...perhaps as many as 50 students, so this will be a valuable resource.

Two questions:

1. Is there a diagnostic so I know where to begin with each student and differentiate stations?

2. Are these activities appropriate for 6th grade? The students may feel embarrassed using worksheets that are "baby" looking (perception) and this may be a deterrent.

I look forward to your thoughts.

Thanks,

Joan Wicks

Hi Joan. Thank you for your compliments and questions. There is not a diagnostic included, but I have always had success with starting all students at the beginning. They will naturally move quickly through the beginning stages if they are already comfortable with multiplication. As far as the activity sheets, some of them may look a bit "young" for grade 6 students, but you are free to pick and choose the ones that you'd like to use. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
