Paragraph Color Coding and Outlining Packet by The Teacher Next Door contains 10 worksheets, keys, and complete Teacher Notes to help your students understand the organization of a paragraph and to help them create “T-Chart” outlines.
This packet is a nice addition to the Step Up to Writing Model but can be used in any classroom. I can't say enough about how much I love teaching basic paragraph writing using this method. When kids understand the basic recipe for a paragraph, their writing becomes so much stronger. Color coding and outlining has really helped my students be able to craft much more organized and cohesive paragraphs.
I do love the topics included in this packet too. I think they're ones your kids will enjoy reading.
Paragraph topics to color code include informational text (a key Common Core concept) and include:
My Cat Lola
Three Branches of Government
