This lesson worked awesome in my classroom. The students had to develop characters with physical and personality traits, and they worked in a group to create an original script which included conflict, exposition, climax, and resolution, theme, and mood. My freshman had fun and learned the materials for the short story unit alot better this year than when they were just analyzing stories. Try this in your classroom! It is great.

I have taught Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann in my AP Language and Composition Class for the last 2 years. These are the discussion group questions, research projects, activities, quiz, and resources and examples that I use for Chronicle 1. It is an awesome non-fiction (literary journalism) book to teach to High School Students.

I use Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann for my AP Language and Composition class. Each week I assign the students a chapter and on Friday they get into book discussion groups. This book would work for any high school English class, but it is especially interesting for the AP Language class because it is non-fiction (literary journalism) and Grann uses interesting sentence structure, word choice, and punctuation that students can analyze and learn from about Writer's Craft.

I start this unit with a KWL- What you know, what you want to know, and what you have learned. Before the students read "Night" by Elie Wiesel, I first introduced my students to the history that led to WW11 and the anti-semetic climate in Germany from the NAZI Party. This power point is great for creating anticipation before reading "Night."

This power point explains everything students need to know about short stories. There are pictures and descriptions of point of view, plot, setting, conflict, characterization, and story order. It is a great way to start your unit!

This activity helps students feel like they can understand what Shakespeare is saying. Students will break down the prologue of Romeo and Juliet into something they can understand.

This close reading activity helps students consider the elements of style and what makes each author distinct. Students will create metaphors or similes comparing authors you are studying in class to desserts. This higher level thinking activity is engaging and will have students thinking abstractly.

This is a creative and fun way for students to gain full understanding of the characters and plot in Romeo and Juliet. This project has students summarize the scenes, analyze characters, choose modern day actors and actresses to be casted as the characters in their playbill, and use MLA format to cite sources.

This graphic organizer includes: theme, figurative language, sound devices, and imagery/symbols. I use it for the students to pick out elements as they read a poem.
