BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE: Students should know the basics of Simple, Compound, and Complex sentences. These cards are to be used as practice in identifying correctly written examples of these three types of sentences.
USE: These cards can be used in a variety of ways including, but not limited to:
- group or partner work
- individual work
- literacy/writing center
- early finisher work
- extra credit
- tutoring groups
- As a "Scoot" game
- *individual or group race (give allotted time, person/group with most correct in that amount of time wins!)
EXTENSION: Use the same cards and the provided two-sided “Extension Recording Sheet” and “Extension Answer Key” to have students identify the subjects and verbs which form all the clauses.
- Simple Sentence: one independent clause
- Compound Sentence: two independent clauses
- Complex Sentence: one independent and one dependent clause
*NOTE: It is important to me that the resources I sell be complete in and of themselves. That is why I have included an “Absent Student” page in this product. All the sentences from the task cards are presented on a single page for you to send home with students who have been absent, or even to use with students who have been placed in an alternative setting where you still have to provide the work.
