This descriptive music writing unit is perfect for the Halloween season. It is designed for 4-6 grade students who need practice with using musical terms to describe a music selection. There is a cross-curricular connection to descriptive writing.

This unit does not include the recordings of music used, however it does give youtube references. Some materials (a piano, glowsticks, markers, etc) are needed for some lessons (print it out and prepare ahead of time and you'll be fine).

Ended up going with a different listening activity for the month, but will keep for future use.
This was exactly what I needed for the month of October, as we are preparing 5th graders for the state music CBPA where they have to analyze pieces of music. These writing lessons got them thinking more in depth and critically about what elements they were hearing as they listened.
I use this in my sub tub - it's great!
This was GREAT at Halloween. However I will use individual activities year round. Students loved the John Williams lesson, especially with the glow sticks. Super fun!
