This set of quizzes covers the following 5th grade California English Language Arts standard: 2.4 Draw inferences, conclusions, or generalizations about text and support them with textual evidence and prior knowledge.

There are two assessments (pre/post). They are set up in a multiple choice format, each quiz containing 5 questions and the answers. The questions are leveled from far below basic-to below basic-to basic-to proficient-to advanced.

The ideal use for these assessments, would be to introduce the specific standard and do your initial teaching. Then give students the pretest, next use the data to help guide your re-teaching of the standard. Finally, give the post test to assess your student's growth and plan any necessary interventions or re-teaching.

You can either make copies of the quizzes and have students recored their answers on an index card (then you can reuse the copy at a later date), or if your school has the technology, you can use a lap top and projector and display the quiz on the white board (since it is in a pdf format, you can then enlarge any area).

The California standards have been developed o build on each other and students progress through each grade. These quizzes may be used for proficient/advanced level 4th graders or below basic/basic 6th graders.
