Description
This activity guides students through the rules for adding integers using a visual approach. Using "chips" and the concept of "zero pairs", students will generalize rules for adding pairs of integers whose signs are different by examining patterns. A simple but effective approach, since students can "see" what's going on! Enjoy!

GREAT COMMON CORE ACTIVITY!
Nice Product....thanks!
Thank you!
This was an AWESOME resource. Simple, clear, and concrete for my students. I had employed the 'balloon' method and used Smartboard activities with pos. and negative chips 'battling' one another, but combining ordering pos & neg numbers using the vertical numberline, along with the equation writing activity with pos & neg chips gave my students a much better grasp of the concept. Redirecting them to use the vertical number line was a huge support and provided great error analysis during the activity.
Thanks so much!
