This watermelon unit is full of hands-on math activities. The activities in this packet include:
- Teacher's Directions and Notes
- Watermelon Treat Graphing Activity that includes data collection, graphing (bar graph and line plot)
- How Many Seeds Activity: Students will estimate watermelon seeds, count actual seeds, and find mean, median, mode, range, and using data to create a bar graph
- Watermelon Measurements: Students will estimate and then weigh the watermelon and find measurements of the watermelon such as circumference, diameter, and radius.

We had a countdown to summer during the last month of school. Each countdown day had a letter of the alphabet to represent it. W was watermelon day! My students enjoyed these activities.
My students loved doing this activity after we were done with STAAR. They loved have the theme of something but still get math into the activity.
We used this as an end of the year activity. My kids really enjoyed it and had loads of fun with watermelon!
