Simple activities to use with 1st-3rd graders either after read aloud, in a guided reading group or independently. As the school year closes, I am using these independently as I call readers I need to assess.
We started implementing PBIS about a year ago. I made these posters at the beginning of the year to support the expectations we have in place. We go over the expectations at nauseum! After discussing what each one looks like and sounds like, I group the kids up in teams and they illustrate what they look like and sound like on speech bubbles and thought bubbles. My kids come in every Monday morning to this weekend news on their desk. They look forward to it every Monday and even my most reluctant writers like it! I have one little guy who does an outline with his parents on Sunday night because he likes it so much and he was one of my most reluctant writers. I have seen a lot of improvement in their writing because they know to add an exciting beginning, details and wrap it up at the end. Enjoy!
