Students use this form during station time to walk around the room and write down words that they can read at the top. On the bottom half they write down words they are not sure how to read. At the end they bring the paper to me and read me the words they wrote that they can read and I tell them the words that they want to learn to read. In most cases we make flashcards of those words and they take them home to practice.

This download is 13 pages of flashcards with 6 cards per page. At the beginning of the year I copy these words and clip them together in a packet. I attach a letter explaining to the parents that these are the words we will learn to read this year and that they need to practice them at home. I also attach a popcorn bag to store them in - the children LOVE that! It is hard to tell in the preview, but each card has a tub of popcorn behind the word in gray - this makes the flashcards a little more

I use these when teaching the letters to the students. In the bubbles they can draw a picture that begins with the letter in the center and then attempt to write the word. For older students you can have them write a word that begins with the letter in the center and then write a sentence using that word. There are really all kinds of ways you can use these letter webs, but those are a couple of ways I have used them in my classroom.

About the store

Experience

I was a Kindergarten teacher for 8 years. I served as an Academic Coach for K-5th grade for 1 year. I then was an Assistant Principal for 2 years and now I am in my 2nd year as a Principal.

Teaching style

I am a very hands on teacher and love to create things that are fun and exciting to make children want to learn.

Awards & shining teacher moments

While at St. Bethlehem Elementary I received the Green Apple Award, the Distinguished Classroom Teacher Award and the 2005-2006 Teacher of the Year. I was selected as a Crayola Gold Star Teacher for 2006-2007. While at Barkers Mill Elementary I was selected as Barkers Mill Elementary's Teacher of the Year and was then named Clarksville-Montgomery County Teacher of the Year for K-4th grade. I was also selected at a Crayola Gold Star Teacher for 2007-2008. I was featured in the Clarksville Family Magazine in November 2007

My own education history

I graduated from Union University in Jackson, TN, with a degree in Elementary and Middle School Education in 2000. I graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University with a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership in 2004. I am very interested in getting my doctoral degree - we'll see when I embark on that journey.

Additional biographical information

I love frogs (fake frogs of course) and my favorite color is green - these are the two things that students learn about me really fast. While at St. Bethlehem Elementary I painted my classroom green and had frogs everywhere, which the students really enjoyed. I did not paint my classroom at Barkers Mill Elementary due to being at a new school, however I did have frogs everywhere. My students have contributed to my frog collection each year. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, working out at the YMCA and watching movies. I attend Grace Community Church where I teach Kindergarten Sunday School, lead a small group of high school seniors and college students.
