Reflecting Across the Axes of a Coordinate Plane

In this Betta Math Lesson, students will use mirrors to discover what it means to reflect various ordered pairs across the axes of a coordinate plane. Students will recognize patterns as they work through the student notes sheet and work with their partners. Please view the full lesson plan in the preview to see if this lesson may be something you would like to purchase. You can also view a short youtube video that shows students using this resource successfully within my own classroom. More inf

Understanding How to Plot Ordered Pairs on a Coordinate Plane

In this lesson students will learn how to plot odered pairs by learning that an ordered pair is where the x-coordinate and y-coordinate intersect. This lesson include a template for an interactive coordinate plane that students can keep in their notebooks and practice on using dry-erase markers. They will also discover how to determine which quadrant an ordered pair falls in by looking at which coordinates are negative and positive. (The best part about this lesson is that it includes an brief a

Four to Score: Game that Reinforces Coordinate Graphing

Four to Score is a game for students that have already learned about graphing ordered pairs and helps reinforce this skill, knowing the four Quadrants and knowing how to plot coordinates on each axis. This is a fun game that can be played to help students better understand how to plot coordinates. It also helps students visualize which coordinate is negative or positive within each QUADRANT. There is also an element of logical thinking when students have to decide which ordered pair would help t

"Find the Gators" (A Game Practicing Plotting Ordered Pairs)

This is a fun game that introduces the students to a fun fictional scenario where alligators from Australia have escaped in their town. They have been asked to use their knowledge of plotting ordered pairs to find all seven missing "Gators". I have used this game with many of my classes to practice plotting ordered pairs and everytime I play it, it is a hit! Experience

I have two decades of experience teaching mathematics both at the middle school level as well as at the high school level. I enjoy many different subjects and plan to expand my resources to include more advanced subjects as well as update many of my products.

Teaching style

I enjoy making my students as interactive as possible helping them to learn through visuals, videos and games. I am excited about the new COMMON CORE CURRICULUM because it will be much more fun to teach the concepts at a deeper level. I love hands-on activities and inspiring my students to think at a much higher level. I am currently learning more about using apps as a way to create authentic learning opportunities for my students.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I am currently being trained as a Apple Vanguard Teacher and also as a LEAD Teacher where I will be helping other teachers learn how to incorporate various APPLE Apps to enrich their lessons.

My own education history

I have a Bachelors Degree Mathematics with a minor in Secondary Education. I am qualified to teach 6-12th grade and I have earned my Masters Degree in Leadership and Administration.

Additional biographical information

I have two lovely daughters and a wonderful husband. I enjoy spending time with them going to the beach and just being outside. I also have a small herd of goats and a cute little dog that are my fur babies. I love each and every one of them!
