I am a high school English teacher with over 30 years of experience teaching English II and Creative Writing. I focus on helping students become stronger writers, critical thinkers, and more engaged learners. My teaching emphasizes real-world connections, using art, film, and discussion-based activities to make learning meaningful and relevant for students. I hold a Master of Arts in Education from Truman State University and am certified in Missouri to teach English Language Arts in grades 5–12. Over the course of 30+ years in the classroom, I have taught students in grades 4–12, giving me a strong understanding of how to support learners at a wide range of ability levels. This experience allows me to design resources that are both rigorous and accessible, with clear scaffolding and practical strategies that work in real classrooms.

I became a teacher because education had a powerful impact on my own life. I have always believed that teaching is one of the most meaningful professions, as it opens opportunities and changes the trajectory of students’ lives. In my classroom, I balance quiet student thinking time with structured discussion and active learning. I believe students learn best when they have time to reflect, collaborate, and engage with meaningful content.
